One of my absolute favorite wineries right now, Michael David out of Lodi, California, never seems to disappoint. I was recently tasked with supplying the wine for a girls’ night dinner at The Melting Pot and one of the bottles I brought with me was the 2010 Michael David Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon. Not only is the label eye catching with the strongest man on earth, but the wine is fantastic, too!
This full-bodied Cab is mildly spicy with hints of oak and vanilla. It has some Petit Sirah blended in with it, and the finish leaves you wanting more. There seriously wasn’t enough in this bottle for the four girls at dinner. We finished it before dessert, which was slightly disappointing because it would have been the perfect pair with the strawberries dipped in the melted dark chocolate fondue!
All in all, you can’t go wrong with this wine or any of the Michael David wines I’ve tried thus far (Petite Petit or 7 Deadly Zins). For the price (approximately $20), the quality is one that will impress. Another plus is the fact that the winery practices sustainable farming. According to the Michael David website, “Starting with the 2011 vintage 100% of the Lodi grown fruit crushed at Michael David winery was certified sustainable.”
My vote is in and I say that you need to get you “Freak” on today!
