Wine Review: The Cabs of Louis M. Martini

While out in California this past September, I got to visit the place that bares the name of one of my everyday go-to wines: Louis M. Martini Winery. Located in St. Helena, this Winery offers a variety of Cabs that are delicious no matter if we’re talking about Sonoma, Napa or Alexander Valley regions.

You can’t beat the value of the Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. Priced between $10-15, this medium-bodied wine offers a good balance between fruit and spice. It’s not as spicy or oaky as its Napa or Alexander Valley counterparts, but most people probably wouldn’t notice much of a difference. Of course, the Napa and Alexander Valley versions of this cab are even better, but if you’re on a budget the Sonoma wine is just the ticket.

While touring the Winery, I also got a taste of the Cabernet Sauvignon gems Monte Rosso and Lot 1.

Monte Rosso

Monte Rosso

The Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon was a full-bodied wine that showcased flavors of black cherry and chocolate, with hints of spice. The dark fruit combined with firm tannins resulted in a balanced wine with a long, lingering finish.

My favorite wine from the tasting was the rich, complex Louis M. Martini Lot 1 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine included deep, intense dark fruit flavors of blackberry, plum and black cherry, highlighted by toasted oak notes and hints of chocolate and spice. Forget the genie in the bottle, this was pure luxury in a bottle!

Make no mistake about it, no matter your taste in Cabernet Sauvignon the Louis M. Martini Winery is sure to have one that fits your preference and budget.
